![]() By the finale, I had lost all interest in the main heist itself. ![]() Nor does the story have the sort of ending that sends you off thinking: Oh, that’s how it all came together. It lacks the right build-up, but I’m not even sure if watching the episodes in chronological order (a quick internet search will pull up that info) would fix the issue. There’s a clockwork energy to heist stories that’s interrupted here. The binge format doesn’t have to be locked into a set formula! But even if the writing were stronger, I wonder how well this experiment would work. I like that Garcia and Netflix are playing around with form. You have to fill eight episodes with something, I guess. There is a lot of promise in Eric Garcia ’s Kaleidoscope, a heist miniseries that is the latest. Less intriguing is the parallel storyline of the fed who has been tracking this crew for years. Kaleidoscope is an interesting idea that works far better in theory than it does in execution. The series has some challenges around delayed gratification and creator Eric Garcia was smart to mitigate that by building in several minor heists along the way. Kaleidoscope is loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in. In order to get this heist off the ground, they have to pull of a series of smaller heists - pre-heist heists - that include everything from springing Esposito’s character from prison (that would be the “Green” episode and the one I think works best on a purely storytelling level) to raising the seed money needed to fund their grand break-in. While the cast of the series appears to be fairly impressive, the crew behind the scenes also deserves credit for creatively presenting the narrative. "All these characters, to some extent, are stuck in a cycle. ![]() Though the trailer for the show seems to center on these three characters, the rest of the ensemble includes Paz Vega as Ava Mercer, Tati Gabrielle as Hannah Kim, Rosaline Elbay as Judy Goodwin, Peter Mark Kendall as Stan Loomis, Jai Courtney as Bob Goodwin, and Max Castello as Taco.ĭuring an interview with CBR, the series' star, Jai Courtney, discussed her role as a bank robber in the upcoming Netflix series. Niousha is an Iranian-American actress who has acted in numerous television shows and films, including 1000 Ways to Die, Stitchers, and Here and Now. Meanwhile, Niousha Noor will play Nazan Abassi, an FBI agent who tries to stop Leo Pap's heist. Kaleidoscope is admittedly fun at times, playfully bursting into action in ways that aren’t always predictable. He's been in the industry for nearly two decades, appearing in numerous hit films and television series such as The Legend of Zorro, Dark City, Eleventh Hour, The Man in the High Castle, and Agatha Christie's TV adaptation, The Pale Horse.
